I'm hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast for the nine women diagnosed with breast cancer each day in New Zealand.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022, it changed my life in an instant.  I was in the battle of my life and I was feeling so low, I had cried so many times the day I decided to call BCF. I didn't know why I was calling; I didn't know what I needed to talk to them about; I didn't know what to ask, but the call was answered and a wonderful fully qualified nurse who spent time with me, there was no-time pressure, there was nothing we couldn't talk about and she continued to talk to me all through my treatment, she became a friend that I will be forever grateful for. That alone is enough reason for me to want to give back in anyway I can, but behind that, BCF are also funding research so that one day no one will have to ask as I did "Am I going to die?".
This year to give back I am determined to raise $10,000- but I'm not doing it, Ruth Carpenter, Maire Litchfield and Sarah Lawson are with me to Host a Campagne High Tea at Abel Estate on the 19th May. On the day we are also running a silent auction with donations from so many generous people and companies:

  1. Abel Estate - the wonderful High Class High Tea
  2. Abel Software - to be confirmed
  3. Craig Shearer Photography - Framed Nature Photo
  4. Dance Space - Dance classes for an entire semester for two
  5. Echelon Advisors - 12-month Financial Advice Package, including a deep-dive session with a qualified Financial Planner
  6. Headstart Total Body - Silver bullet hair curler and hair spray
  7. Joy and Lindsay Millar - a framed Glen John art print
  8. K9 Cadets  - 3 hours of dog training
  9. Mane Hair - a groomed basket of hair care products
  10. Ruth Carpenter and Kevin Townsend - A weekend stay at the five-star The Top House in Russell
  11. The Ayla Network - Bravery Booster Session
  12. The Ayla Network - Confidence Check Package
  13. Unruly Company -  12-month gym membership with an intake consultation with one of our coaches

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Kiwi women. 1 in 9 women will be diagnosed with it in their lifetime. And 650 women in Aotearoa die from the disease every year.

That’s why I’m hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast this year, to help change that.

Please donate to raise funds for life-saving education, life-changing patient support and ground-breaking medical research. And bring us closer to a day when there are zero deaths from breast cancer.

Postponing High Tea

I had the courage to make a really hard decision last week.
I postponed my Breast Cancer fundraising event until October, due to ticket sales not getting to where I wanted for the successful event I wanted.

When I had the idea for what I wanted to do this year I wasn't sure I could pull it off, it was a gamble to go from last year's really successful cupcake sales events to a high class high tea event.
But I wanted to reach for something new (and too be honest I haven't made another cupcake in the year).

The decision to postpone was really the right one, but was the original decision to dramatically change how I wanted to raise money the right one?
It's taken me days to come to the conclusion that it absolutely was. Stepping out of my comfort zone and having the courage to try something new has been a really rewarding experience and I've learnt a lot which I can apply to the new event date.

I have really appreciated the encouragement from so many people, I think there is totally a reason why "courage" is within encouragement (hashtag not a lexicographer). The encouragement I received has made me more determined to make October exactly the event I wanted it to be.
And courage and encouragement is why I am still asking for donations to my May Breast Cancer Foundation morning tea. https://lnkd.in/g3mi6SnN

With that courage and encouragement I will pull off a great Champagne High Tea for the Breast Cancer foundation in October.

the loss is great but we can win

A lady I had never met but had spoken to on messenger and whose journey blog I have followed died on the weekend I mourn her loss.
She was a brave lady who fought the good fight and left behind a devastated family and friends.
She is not the only woman I know who has fought to the end with breast cancer... Yvonne, Heather, Louise. all brave women, all wonderful people with people who love them. We all know someone or more than just one... Just as over 600 people die each year in New Zealand (stat as at 2021). 1 in 9 women are diagnosed with Breast Cancer
BCF is working through funding research to make it zero lives lost and they need our help. BCF also helps women in a very real way today, by being a reassuring source of information, and by having their little cute pink caravan on the road helping ensure we all understand the signs to look for, to diagnose BC as early as possible.
It is in the name of all the ladies above that I am hosting the Champagne High Tea. Please come along and support. Email highteafundraiser2024@gmail for tickets.
$175- per person including a glass of Veuve Champagne (or soft drink) on arrival.
19th May 2024 at Abel Estate.

Tickets are on sale

It has been such an exciting thing for me to plan a big event, what seemed like a really impossible dream at the beginning is coming together with the help of so many people but especially Ruth, Maire and Sarah, who have done everything they can to make my dream come true.
Our Champagne High - Tea has a beautiful setting at Abel Estate and yesterday the first tickets were sold. We are selling 100 tickets so that is still nerve racking to make sure we sell all the tickets. But I am going to do my best to make it happen.
On the day I have promised to do a a Karakia and that is also making me nervous, but in a good way, I am trying to push my brain and mouth to complete do it well.
The MC of the day is Jacqui Nairn, an official BCF ambassador and I am looking forward to meeting her again.
Our Silent auction is looking great with so many generous people offering their time and expertise.
I will be keeping calm but determined to get this done.
