Amanda's story
Amanda is a mum of two, who was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer at age 36.
She was offered Keytruda, a medication that treats triple negative breast cancer by helping the body's immune system recognise and target cancer cells. It can also reduce the risk of cancer returning by 32%.
But Amanda had just brought a house in Wellington, and the medication was going to cost $8,485 every three weeks.
“I said no.
Unfortunately, my cancer didn’t respond to chemotherapy. By the time I had a mastectomy, it had grown to stage 3C.I remember ringing my oncologist begging, hoping I was still eligible for Keytruda.”
Amanda's brothers helped fundraise for the treatment she needed and started a Givealittle page.
