I’m helping raise vital funds for breast cancer education, research and patient support.
My mother died from breast cancer in October 1980 when I was 13 years old. She was diagnosed with breast cancer 9 years prior. The only known treatment then was surgery and radiation. She was in and out of hospital, thankfully she always came back. But in October 1980, the cancer spread to her brain and she never woke up.
I have experienced the hardship, the emotional struggle and lack of support. No one knew what to do.
We have made much progress since then in terms of medical breakthrough and more importantly the vital emotional support for the patient and the whanau (family)
I know friends and loved ones who have breast cancer. Unfortunately some did not survive but some managed to beat this terrible disease.
Our prayer group participated in this worthy cause every year. We have Mass and we also pray the rosary.
We have a fellowship dinner. Each of us bring a plate of pink food (quite a challenge but we do bring out the creative culinary skill in us that we did not know we have), pink attire and koha (donation) to raise fund for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. Below is the message from the Foundation.
Every year 3,500 Kiwis are diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 650 will die.
By fundraising for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, I’m helping fund –
- Ground-breaking projects by some of our countries top researchers
- Education about breast health, the importance of regular screening and the signs and symptoms of breast cancer
- Free support services for breast cancer patients and their families
Donate today to help make zero deaths from breast cancer a reality.
