When I was 12 my nana had discovered a very small lump in her breast which was cancerous, luckily it was early before it turned aggressive. She had actually hid this from me because she knew that it would have scared me into thinking the worst. She had to travel to Christchurch constantly for treatment and luckily with radiation treatment they were able to eradicate her cancer. From this experience she has always taught me how to check myself properly and if I have any concerns, she will actually help me check. She is one of the lucky ones but obviously there are LOTS of other women who are not so lucky...
There are residents who we all look after who have had scares, surgeries, chemo and radiation treatment. Their lives were flipped upside down but have learnt that there is so much support from others and us! I am doing this for them, my nana and all the other beautiful women who have been affected by breast cancer and to help keep the funding up to be able to support them.
