I’m riding the Tour Aotearoa cycling brevet from Cape Reinga to Bluff (3,015km) mid-February to mid-March for fun* and to help raise vital funds for breast cancer education, research and patient support. I'm wanting to raise $1** for every km of the ride
Every year 3,500 Kiwis are diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 650 will die.
In 2019 my wife Mary-Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent treatment including surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. We are very grateful for the work of the Breast Cancer Foundation (and of course all our friends, family and health professionals) and we're thankful her prognosis is good.
By fundraising for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, I’m helping fund –
- Ground-breaking projects by some of our country's top researchers
- Education about breast health, the importance of regular screening and the signs and symptoms of breast cancer
- Free support services for breast cancer patients and their families

* Hopefully more type 1 fun than type 3! (Type 1 being fun at the time, type 2 maybe not fun at the time but in hindsight actually quite memorable and type 3.......)
** Someone has asked if I raise more than my $3,015 target, will I then be biking back towards home from Bluff for every extra dollar raised? 😊 We would be absolutely delighted to see the target exceeded for such a good cause…….
