Why I’m Fundraising for the Breast Cancer Foundation
Tuesday 11th Mar Breast cancer isn’t just a statistic to me—it’s part of my family’s story. It’s woven into our history, leaving behind heartbreak, strength, and a deep desire to make a difference.My mum was just 30 years old when she passed away from breast cancer. I was only nine. Too young to fully understand the weight of it all, but old enough to feel the loss. Old enough to remember the sound of her voice, the way she smiled, and how she fought with everything she had.
She wasn’t the only one. My nana had breast cancer. My grandmother had breast cancer. Even my auntie faced the battle. It runs through my family like a thread we never asked for, a painful reminder of how unfair this disease can be.
Losing my mum at such a young age shaped me in ways I’m still discovering. There are moments—big and small—where I wish she were here. Weddings, birthdays, milestones, and even just the ordinary days when I long for a mother’s advice, a hug, a simple "I love you."
That’s why this fundraiser means so much to me. It’s more than just raising money; it’s about honoring my mum and every other woman who has fought this battle. It’s about making sure that more families don’t have to experience the same loss.
Through my business, Blessed by Nature NZ, I’m dedicating this year to supporting the Breast Cancer Foundation. Every purchase, every donation, every conversation sparked by this effort brings us closer to better research, better treatment, and hopefully, one day, a cure.
