My First Half Marathon!

By Tim Bailey

I’m helping raise vital funds for breast cancer education, research and patient support.

Every year, about 3500 Kiwis are diagnosed with breast cancer, and sadly over 650 won’t make it.

This cause is close to my heart — too close, in fact — so I’m running the Hutt Half Marathon to raise awareness. 21.1 kilometres sounds tough, but less than two hours (hopefully) running down the Hutt River is nothing compared to what many have been through on their breast cancer journey.

I’ve only got 6 weeks to train and raise $500 before the big day on Sunday 21 September.

Thanks heaps for your support — it means a lot.

Tim

My Updates

Health Update

Wednesday 10th Sep
Amazingly I still have a cough. It just won't go away after maybe 4-5 weeks now. Sorry to my wife and colleagues and anyone else that's had to listen to it. Hopefully it won't stop me from achieving a sub 2 hour run on 21/9!

Training Update

Tuesday 9th Sep
Just a 10km tonight after Maddy went to bed, chilly out... brrr - happy with my pace consistency and I still had a little left in the tank to push the last km. Just TWO weeks to go now!

Training Update

Monday 1st Sep
Got close to the 2-hour mark yesterday, running in the heavy rain, very pleased with my pace consistency. Not long now!

Socks Update

Tuesday 26th Aug
Jono, these are an absolute game changer - thank you mate, no more blisters!

Training Update

Tuesday 26th Aug
So, I wasn't planning on it, but I ran the full distance on Sunday. My thinking was if I could run 15km then I could run the full distance with added race day adrenaline, but it was a beautiful day, and I just kept going! I'm still short of my 2 hour target but it felt good and no injuries.

Training Update

Wednesday 13th Aug
Managed a 10km at sub 2 hour half marathon pace whilst coughing my lungs up, so I'm hopeful that I can achieve my target with good health!

Training Update

Sunday 10th Aug
Increased my distance to 15km. Sub 2 hour won't happen at this pace so I need to work harder. Still recovering from this cough though so staying positive.
