Veronica’s Legacy: Tri-ing for Awareness

In April 2026, our family’s world changed completely. We lost my beautiful mum, Veronica, less than a month after her breast cancer diagnosis. The speed of her loss left a massive hole in the lives of everyone who knew her, and navigating that sudden grief has been incredibly tough.
As a triathlete, I am using my racing to do something practical about it. I am raising funds and awareness for the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ to help ensure other families aren't blindsided by this kind of rapid loss. Early detection is everything.
Look out for me on the course in my custom pink-ribbon tri suit, and please take my race slogan to heart: Check your melons.

Training Update: Big Milestones and Heavy Miles

Sunday 23rd Aug
This week was all about building consistency and pushing limits as the countdown to the Hutt Valley Half Marathon on September 20th gets closer. Looking back at the week's training log, the hard work is definitely starting to pay off.
Here is how the week tracked:
  • Monday: Started the week with a 5.5km walk/run with the dog, followed by a sharp 1-hour interval session on the bike hitting 25km.
  • Wednesday: Smashed out a solid 70km endurance ride over 3 hours to build that deep aerobic engine.
  • Saturday: The big milestone of the week. Hit the pavement for a 15km long run. This was my fastest 15km run since 2020.
  • Sunday: Flushed out the legs today with a nice and easy 40-minute recovery ride covering 15km.
Hitting a six-year running milestone on Saturday was a massive confidence boost, but the real motivation remains the same. Every single kilometre I log is dedicated to honouring my mum, Veronica, and pushing for early detection.
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated towards our $5,000 target so far. Please keep sharing the page, supporting the journey, and most importantly—check your melons today! 🍉
