Every year 3,500 Kiwis are diagnosed with breast cancer, and more than 650 will die.

We all know someone

We all know someone who has been through breast cancer.  For me, it was distant relatives and mothers of acquaintances.  Then in early 2021 my sister in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer.  It was tough. It shook me up a bit, someone so close to me having breast cancer.  
Then in early 2022 following a routine mammogram I got a call back. Following a couple of inconclusive biopsies and a precautionary lumpectomy I received the news that I had breast cancer.   I was fit and had no symptoms so was very shocked.  My world came crashing down for a while.  I am lucky, it was caught early and had not spread.  I did not need to go through chemotherapy.  Two surgeries later, I have the scars to remind myself, but no one else would even know.  I had always been diligent with regular mammograms.  Now I spread the word to every woman I know.  Make sure you know your normal, have your regular mammograms and see your doctor if you have any concerns. 
Look after yourself - you can't take care of anyone else if you don't take care of yourself.
