Show me the money for breast cancer education, research and patient support 🌸🌸
Fundraising hair chop ✂️I’ll be doing a fundraising hair chop on Sunday 18 January at Sprig and Fern Berhampore at 1pm!
The plan is simple. Anyone who has donated, or donates and is present on the day, gets to snip a chunk of my hair. ✂️
There will be photos and videos, good humour, and very little dignity. After that, I’ll finish the job and shave it all off. 🪒
Hair grows back. Research, education and support change outcomes
My why 💗
In September 2025, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. This diagnosis came after noticing something that definitely should not have been ignored. Blood from my left boob!
Not subtle. Not glamorous. Very effective at getting my attention!
October 2025 saw me say goodbye to my problematic left boob with a single mastectomy 🌸.
Thankfully due to early detection and becoming a one tit wonder, all further treatment is simply to make sure there’s no ‘cancer dust’ left behind! In other words, I’m in the lucky position that my chemo is preventative rather than life saving.
I’m heading into treatment, including chemotherapy commencing 6th January 2026. As part of this journey my hair is on borrowed time. Instead of quietly letting that happen, I’m taking control and turning it into something useful.
I’m fundraising for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ to support the work that genuinely saves lives. World class research, education around breast health and early detection, and free support services for people and families going through this right now.
The support I’ve received to date through Breast Cancer Foundation NZ has been priceless. Knowing this support exists, and that others will be able to access it too, is a huge part of why I’m doing this.
Breast cancer affects 3,500 Kiwis every year, and more than 650 people die from it. Those numbers are not inevitable, and that’s why this work matters so much.
If you take one thing from this page, let it be this; Check your boobs 🌸🌸! Get anything unusual checked. And remind the people you love to do the same. All genders need to check! Don't think you are immune!
💰 If you can donate, that’s incredible.
⏩ If you can share, that helps more than you know.
📣 If you’re cheering from the sidelines, I feel that too.
Let’s fund the research, knowledge, support and education provided by the Breast Cancer Foundation and turn one very bald head into something powerful. 💪🏻
Thank you so much for being part of this 🥰🌸🌸🥰
My Updates
🍹🌴 Not the holiday I’ve dreamt about 🌴🍹
Tuesday 17th FebFive sessions down, a plot twist, and a well earned chemo holiday
I’m writing this from my chemo holiday era, which was not in the original plan but has turned out to be a very necessary pit stop.
The first five weeks of chemo have been a proper mixed bag.
The good stuff first:
The treatment is doing what it’s meant to do. I’ve stayed as active as my body allows, kept my sense of humour most days, and been completely surrounded by love through messages, check-ins, and people holding me in mind. That support genuinely carries me on the harder days.
Now the less glossy bits:
Chemo aches that feel like you’ve run a marathon you absolutely did not sign up for. Fatigue that arrives unannounced and settles in. And then, for a bit of unexpected drama, my port decided it was done with this journey. The wound opened significantly, infection set in, chemo had to be paused, and it ended with a late-night trip to theatre to have the port removed under local anaesthetic and a two night stay in hospital with several IV bags of antibiotics pumped into me. 0.5 stars. Do not recommend.
The current update is a much more positive one.
The wound is healing incredibly well, which has been a huge relief, and I’m feeling increasingly confident that I’ll be cleared to resume chemo on Tuesday if healing continues on this trajectory. A short pause was frustrating, but it was absolutely the right call to let my body heal safely.
This experience has also highlighted the very real day-to-day impact of treatment at home. Mark has been an absolute legend and has taken on all the cooking, washing up, and cleaning while I focus on treatment and recovery. To help take some pressure off him, we’re now looking into a meal delivery service to make things a bit more sustainable over the coming weeks.
On that note, if anyone has recommendations for a reliable local cleaner we could use for a few months while I rebuild my strength, I would be incredibly grateful. Practical support like that would make a huge difference right now.
What hasn’t wavered for a second is my gratitude. This journey has reinforced just how vital support, education, and research are for people walking this road. That is why this fundraiser still means so much to me.
A huge shout-out to my employer, One NZ, and their Te Rourou Foundation, who have contributed an incredible $3,000 directly to the Breast Cancer Foundation in support of this fundraiser. I am grateful to work for an organisation that genuinely backs its people when it matters most.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, checked in, or simply held me in mind. I’m healing, resting, and getting ready to head back into treatment next week feeling stronger and very supported. 💪🏻
Onwards. One week at a time. 💛

🤖 Round two of chemo complete and I’m now part cyborg! 🤖
Wednesday 14th Jan Round two of chemo was pumped into me yesterday by the lovely team at Wellington Hospital’s Blood and Cancer Centre. But not before undergoing surgery on Friday morning to insert a portacath into my chest. I now have a nifty we device under my skin which resembles a donut but all future blood tests and injections/infusions will be plugged directly into this port!
Chemo session one done ✅
Tuesday 6th Jan First dose of chemo is now pulsing through my body mopping up any ‘cancer dust’ and preventing reoccurrence!
We have a time and Venue!
Monday 5th Jan My Mop Chop will be taking place at The Sprig and Fern in Berhampore, Wellington. See you next Sunday 18th January from 1pm!Thank you to my Sponsors
