I'm hosting a Pink Ribbon afternoon tea in Honour of My Mum, My Grandma and myself
 MY STORY
Just a few days before my birthday in October last year, I heard the words that no one is ever truly ready for: “you have breast cancer.” Not exactly the birthday gift I was hoping for. I was thinking maybe a cake, a bottle of wine, or a nice pair of earrings… not a crash course in Oncology. In that moment, what should have been a time of celebration became the start of a journey of fear, uncertainty, and the beginning of a battle I never wanted to fight.
Breast cancer runs deep in my family. My mum had battled it twice before she died. Her mum—my Grandma—tragically lost her life to it. I always knew it might one day come for me, but nothing prepares you for that moment it actually does.Â
Since then, I’ve endured painful surgeries and rounds of radiation treatment that not only treated my cancer but has left a negative impact on my lung capacity. Right now, I’m waiting to start a medication that will help keep the cancer from coming back, or slow the speed in which it can. It hasn’t been easy—there were days I felt scared, exhausted, uncertain and overwhelmed. It’s been tough, but I’m still standing, and still smiling when I can. I won't let it win.
Emma has been nothing short of extraordinary. The strength she showed me during this time—when she feared the worst touched me in ways I can never fully put into words. Watching her worry about losing me just broke my heart. Her bravery, her hugs, and her hope carried me through. She is my light, my biggest cheer squad leader and my fiercest little warrior. I am forever grateful for her showing me ways to give me hope when I questioned if I had any left.
And then there's my partner Phil, my family, friends and work colleagues - their kindness, understanding, and support have meant more than I can say. From thoughtful messages, flowers, cards, meals and hugs to simply checking in on me each day has reminded me I am part of a community that cares. This made a world of difference to me in getting out of bed each day to function as the new norm.
So this year, I’m hosting a Pink Ribbon Afternoon Tea to honour the women who have walked this path before me—my Mum, my Grandma, and the friends I’ve watched fight with bravery and grace. Some are still battling, some have made it through, and some we sadly miss every day.
I’m fundraising because no one should have to face breast cancer alone. Every dollar raised helps fund critical research, support services, and life-saving care. If you can donate, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you can share this, or even send a kind word, please know ... it means more than you’ll ever know.
And if you’ve walked this path too—please know you will never be alone. This fight isn’t just mine—it’s all of ours. We can make a difference and bring hope to those who need it most.
Together, we can make a difference. For ourselves, for our loved ones and for all of us.
Thank you & much love, Bron xx
