I'm hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast for the nine women diagnosed with breast cancer each day in New Zealand.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Kiwi women. 1 in 9 women will be diagnosed with it in their lifetime. And 650 women in Aotearoa die from the disease every year.

That’s why I’m hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast this year, to help change that.

Please donate to raise funds for life-saving education, life-changing patient support and ground-breaking medical research. And bring us closer to a day when there are zero deaths from breast cancer.

Why I’m holding a pink ribbon breakfast

I’m holding this event in honor of my beautiful friend, Rhonda—a woman whose strength, resilience, and love touched everyone lucky enough to know her.

Rhonda’s Journey

In 2018, Rhonda went to the doctor for a sore rib and left with a diagnosis that changed everything—breast cancer. Just five days later, she was in surgery. Then came five brutal months of chemotherapy, followed by five weeks of daily radiation. And through it all, she kept going—not just for herself but for her two beautiful daughters, Chloe (6 months) and Lola (7 years).

From the moment she was diagnosed, Rhonda faced terrifying odds. Doctors gave her only a 20% chance of surviving 18 months. But if you knew Rhonda, you knew she wasn’t one to back down from a fight. She refused to accept those numbers. She threw herself into research, sought out every possible treatment, and leaned on those of us who stood beside her, determined to do whatever we could to help.

She didn’t just fight for 18 months—she fought for four incredible years. Through every setback, every painful treatment, and every moment of uncertainty, she showed us a kind of strength most people will never understand. And we were there with her, every step of the way—cheering her on, holding her hand, and refusing to let her fight alone.

On June 25, 2022, Rhonda’s battle came to an end. And though she is no longer physically with us, her fight, her love, and her spirit live on in all of us.

Rhonda, you were the fiercest, most incredible friend. You fought harder than anyone should ever have to, and you did it with grace, determination, and a fire that never went out. You taught us how to stand tall in the face of fear, how to keep going when the odds are against us, and how to hold each other up when the weight of it all feels too heavy to bear.

This breakfast is for you. We love you, we miss you, and we will keep fighting—just like you always did.

— In loving memory of Rhonda.
