We all know that Breast Cancer sucks. Let's try to make it less sucky with fundraising.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Kiwi women. Its shitty and shouldn't be so prevalent. If we can band together and raise some funds towards supporting women with cancer, or towards treatment or a cure so there is less cancer, then that's pretty cool.

My mum had breast cancer when I was just a kid. I remember lots of hospital visits, treatments that made her super sick and made all her hair fall out, an angry-looking mastectomy scar, loads of alternative therapies in an effort to try anything that might have the slightest chance of working. I remember the silicon boob insert she had for putting in a bra when she went out for a special occasion. I remember that it was fun to play with. I now realise how painful it must have been wearing that underwire bra. I remember playing "bed goes up, bed goes down" with my siblings when the lounge started to have a hospital bed in it.

I remember just a couple of years ago the day I became older than she would ever be.

Ugh, so, that got a bit heavy. But you see I have good reason for doing some raising of moolah. Let's do it in a fun way though. If you aren't local to us in Wellington then I absolutely would appreciate a donation. If you ARE in Wellington please come to our Pink Ribbon Brunch at The Beer Engine!

28 days to go. Looking for prizes!

Suddenly there's only 28 days until our Pink Ribbon brunch and there's so much to do! And in between there I'll be moving house. Whoops! Tickets are available for purchase now so that's a big one ticked off the list. I'm now looking to find local businesses to donate prizes for games on the day, as well as a raffle we are going to run at the bar for the weeks leading up to the event. Can't wait!

It's that time of year

I don't mean it's time for shorter days (although that's true, stink). For me it's the time of year when I have my annual booby squish (mammogram). In fact I was very responsible and had it on-time, last week. It's so much fun. Not. Every year I have a laugh that this ridiculous contraption of a machine is still the best way for women to have their breasts checked. Anyway, its done. I'm still waiting for my results to check that I get to keep my boobs for another year... isn't anticipation the best? ;)

My memories of Prue are mostly feelings - she made me laugh, didn’t shy away from saying like it is, and loved you all in her fierce yet soft special way. I also loved her creativity and inviting me into your home with warmth despite everything going on. Her love for you all was woven into everything she said and did.
