I'm hosting a Pink Ribbon morning tea to raise awareness and support Cancer warriors

Semele and I were friends since we were 14 year old. Even far away from each other we were still in touch and enjoyed to be part of each other's life.
Before I left Brazil in 2009, we went out with some other friends and I was there when she met her partner.
We checked on each other regularly and was like the saying that real friends don't have to talk every day but when they do, you can pick right up where you left off. I admired her passion for teaching kids, for her niece and for her dogs.
She struggled a lot losing her parents due to COVID - her father passed away in March 2021 and her mum a year later.  At that point she stepped in to look after her siblings.
She was full of dreams... She decided to freeze her eggs to possibly have kids in the near future. We were making plans for our 40th birthdays.
In September 2023 she went for a yearly check up and felt some pain when putting her top on. Later she found a lump and contacted her doctor which requested exams on the same day. She realised that wasn't something simple and had a sample extracted for biopsy. At the end of the month she received the results and discovered that was angiosarcoma of the breast - a rare and aggressive cancer.
The option was surgery followed by radiotherapy.
Even against the odds she tried to remain positive and created a support group on WhatsApp. In the beginning no metastasis was identified which was a good sign.
Before the surgery to remove the lump was confirmed she was undergoing through more tests and the doctor found the the iliac bone and femur were compromised.
The surgery went well and chemotherapy started.
Her friends made a roster to take her to the hospital for minor medical procedures.
Carol, her cousin, was updating us. As a family member she could visit her every day.
Semele went through embolization and was feeling lots of pain. She couldn't sleep so we used to chat in the middle of the night (BRST). We used to laugh a lot about ordinary things. One day she was feeling better and requested to get her nails done.
Due to some internal hemorrhage she went through another surgery to remove her spleen but doctors were concerned about her liver and lungs.
She was very tired and was stable until the doctors discovered her liver was bleeding.
Because her body wasn't reacting to the treatment the last resort was to perform chemotherapy in the ICU. She hesitated, she was suffering so much that just wanted that to be over.
After reconsidering she decided that if she had any chance / hope she would try.
Her liver shut down and shortly the other organs do the same. She battled until the end but unfortunately didn't make it. On 11th February 2024 she become a star and joined her parents.

The profile picture was the last time we saw each other in May 2023.
