I'm hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast for the ten women diagnosed with breast cancer each day in New Zealand.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Kiwi women. 1 in 10 women will be diagnosed with it in their lifetime. And 650 women in Aotearoa die from the disease every year.

That’s why I’m hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast this year, to help change that.

Please donate to raise funds for life-saving education, life-changing patient support and ground-breaking medical research. And bring us closer to a day when there are zero deaths from breast cancer.

This is her story...

My name is Dell (aged 34). I am happily married to Kevin. We have two wonderful children, Lorisa (aged 10) and shayden (aged 8). The year is 1998.
Towards the end of November I noticed a lump on my left breast and when it was still their three weeks later I decided to visit my GP. On the 17th of December I saw my doctor and while there was no family history of problems, she carried out a fine needle aspiration. This was the procedure where a local apathetic was applied then a needle inserted to the lump, taking a biopsy. This was then sent away for analysis. The results were the best we could have hoped for - " normal tissue, no malignant cells seen". I asked about having the lump removed but the Dr saw it as unnecessary.
As time went on Kevin was more and more apprehensive about the lump. By this stage the lump was like a large marble. We had tickets to take the kids to a circus in Christchurch and Kevin insisted I get a referral for a mammogram while we are there. That was booked for the 30th of April.
The mammogram picked up a abnormality. We then had an ultrasound which did not rule out cancer. I was then booked for a core biopsy, under ultrasound, on the following Monday. It was a long weekend.
So it was on Tuesday 4th May I was told I have breast cancer and would need a mastectomy. Why me, im only 35, I breastfeed my children, I haven't been bad, I haven't stolen a thing... besides breast cancer wasn't in my family."

Pink Breakfast in Memory of My Mum

Im hosting a Pink Breakfast in Memory of My Mum, and it means more to me than words can say.
Twenty-one years ago we lost a truly beautiful woman—my mum, Dell. Her fight with cancer began with breast cancer when she was just 34 years old. She fought with courage, strength, and grace, and although cancer eventually took her from us, it never took away the incredible impact she had on everyone who knew her.
My mum really was something special.
She was kind, caring, and incredibly hardworking. She had a way of making people feel welcome and loved, and she brought so much laughter into our lives.
Even after all these years, I miss my mum every single day. I often find myself wondering what life might have looked like if she were still here—what conversations we would have, what moments she would have shared with us, and the memories we could have made together.
But I also know that she is still with us, in our hearts and in the way we live our lives.
That’s why I’m hosting this Pink Breakfast.
This event is not only about remembering my mum and celebrating the incredible person she was, but also about supporting others who are currently facing their own fight with breast cancer. It’s about raising awareness, showing support, and reminding people that they are not alone in their journey.
If coming together, wearing pink, sharing stories, and raising a little bit of money can help even one person through their fight, then it is absolutely worth it.
So this Pink Breakfast is for you, Mum.
To celebrate your strength.
To remember your love.
And to help others keep fighting.
