I'm hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast for the ten women diagnosed with breast cancer each day in New Zealand.

In 2025, my life changed with a single sentence “I am sorry to tell you, you have breast cancer.”

I was devastated. This was not the first time breast cancer had impacted my life. My grandmother was diagnosed in her 50s, my aunty in her 50s, and now me at 46 years old. As overwhelming as the diagnosis was, another thought hit me almost immediately I had to tell the people I loved. The idea of breaking that news to my children was heartbreaking. As a parent, you spend your life trying to protect them. I knew that the moment I told them, their lives would change. My husband has been my rock throughout this whole journey, I cannot thank him enough. When you are going through something as frightening as cancer, the people around you matter more than words can express. I must acknowledge all the incredible people who supported me along the way. From the Breast Screening Centre at Waikato Hospital to my radiation team, and every health professional who cared for me during this time. I am grateful to each of you. Without them, who knows where I would be.

For me, it was really a no-brainer. That’s why I decided to host my very own Pink Ribbon Breakfast. After everything I had been through, it felt like a meaningful way to give back and raise awareness. Once I started spreading the word that I was hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast, my family and friends immediately got behind me sharing the news and supporting the cause. Before long, the message started reaching further and the donations started rolling in. The support has been overwhelming in the most beautiful way. I was so humbled by the generosity of all those who donated.
